What's a virtual 5K?

What's a virtual 5K?

The premise is simple; sign up for a 5K, only instead of gathering in one location, participants can take part all over the world – with at least 6 feet of social distancing in between them – completing the event remotely.

You take on the 5K in your own time at the location of your choice. Record your activity and submit it in order to track completion and see where you land on the leaderboard.

Once your done running or walking your 5K, celebrate your hard work by uploading a photo of yourself to the finisher gallery to share your awesome virtual 5K experience with your fellow finishers.

Step 1: Sign-Up

Like any event, first you have to sign up. It costs $20 to register and 100% of the proceeds go to the AVIXA Foundation.

Step 2: Run/walk a 5K

Complete your activity wherever you choose (including on a treadmill) at any time before June 17 at 9 p.m. PT. If completing the activity outside, use a GPS tracker or running app to record yourself.

Step 3: Submit your results

Once you've completed your virtual event, you need to submit your result in order to join the official finisher list anytime between 9 p.m. PT June 15 to 9 p.m. PT June 17. Submitting a result is done by filling in a simple online form, including uploading a photo or a link to your activity as proof of completion.

FAQs

How do I record my activity with my phone?
To record your run/walk, you will need to download a run tracking app that is able to track your distance and time. Popular apps include Strava, Nike Run Club, MapMyRun, and RunKeeper, and are available in the app store for free on your phone. See the recommended list of running apps here.

Is there a time cutoffs for the virtual 5K?
A virtual 5K is fantastic in that it can be completed at any pace and location. The only restriction on how long you take is the event submission window, which runs 9 p.m. PT June 15 to 9 p.m. PT June 17, giving you lots of time to complete your 5K.

Can I run further than a 5K?
Yes, you can complete a distance further than a 5K. All you need to do is input distance traveled and time, and our race vendor will adjust it down to the time it took to complete the event distance.

Can I do my 5K over a few days and break it up and add up my total time to submit?
Unfortunately, while you can complete the distance at any pace, it must be completed in one go. In order to make the virtual experience as close to a physical event as possible, please submit your total elapsed time that it took to complete your chosen distance rather than total moving time. This will take into account any breaks or stops taken during completion, and mimic the experience of a physical event.

Can I run/walk the 5K at any time of the day?
You can complete your run/walk ANYTIME after entering. Just make sure you submit it within the submission window, which runs 9 p.m. PT June 15 to 9 p.m. PT June 17.

How do I submit my results?
You will be able to submit your results on the Let's Do This platform between 4 a.m. PT June 16  - 9 p.m. PT June 17. See step-by-step instructions here.
