First, beginning with an explanation of the difference between limiters and compressors, I will explain their uses. Then we will discuss the features of each and how to adjust the multiple knobs for different live audio applications. Second, we will move on to equalizers: the different types of Eqs and the functions of each knob. Also included will be tips for improving room acoustics and removing feedback. Finally there will be a demonstration of using a 1/3-octave equalizer to remove feedback from a PA system. Third, we will look at multi zone, or distributed, PA systems. Beginning by teaching the theory of delaying loudspeakers and distributed sound systems, I will introduce the functions of most signal management devices (AKA loudspeaker processors or crossovers), and multi channel amplifiers. We will look at approaches to gain structure and loudspeaker placement, and determine the practically of each.
