There are different ways to test cabling and Power over Ethernet (PoE). Come to this lab to use test equipment and learn the difference between cable certification and qualification testing. Learn how to test if a cable will support PoE. Learn how to test if a PoE is supplying power and how much. This lab will provide attendees the opportunity to use current field test equipment and see the difference between simple continuity tests, application qualification tests, and full blown TIA-568 compliant certification. Students will test real cables to see the difference in performance between a compliant Category 5e cable, Category 6a cable, and a non-compliant copper coated aluminum (CCA) cable. In addition, the lab will show how to do basic cabling troubleshooting and identify how to find the distance to common wiring faults such as opens, shorts, and split pairs.
