Design and Integration Learning Spaces
This presentation shares a case study of creating the Digital Creative Lab (DCL) that incorporates the features of teaching eSports, video production, video capture, podcast content creation, digital production, VR/AR simulation, and a traditional computer lab integrated by using AV-over-IP technology. The University of Southern California has a long history of innovation in the technology and STEAM fields. Given USC's leadership position in the creative space and cutting-edge programs for creative solutions. The USC Games program, a joint venture with USC Cinematic School and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, is the top-ranked game development and design program. USC is located in the heart of Los Angeles, there is no lack of creative talent, but there was no shared space for expressing these creative endeavors. The genesis for DCL was formed to service this need for space for the almost 50,000 full-time enrollment of students at USC. The ITS-Learning Environments Team, in conjunction with the USC Provost Office, created a space where USC Students can collaborate, and the Faculty can educate the next generation of creative leaders from USC.

Learning Objectives
  • Assist their institutional needs to break down educational needs and roadmap the research efforts to create a digital creative lab.
  • Apply AV-over-IP technology to benefit their institution and meet the pedagogy goals.
  • Plan AV-over-IP infrastructure to meet all technical challenges of the creative lab and develop an implementation plan.
