Audio
Immersive audio technologies have become increasingly sought after as a way to engage audiences and contribute to a heightened experience. Many system designers, though, do not thoroughly understand these technologies or the differences between competing systems. As a result, marketing and convenience tend to drive system selection, and system designers rely fully on manufacturers for the design of these systems. This course seeks to reverse these trends and create a population of design professionals knowledgeable in immersive audio concepts. This task will be completed through a primer on the basic system types and how they work, an overview of the benefits and shortcomings of each technology, and an overview of basic system architecture. These systems are highly integrated and place certain demands on the building design, and so these aspects of immersive system design will be covered as well. This course will be presented by two experts in the field of immersive audio and will include demonstrations of loudspeaker power uniformity and of a small scale electronic architecture system to help reinforce concepts.
Learning Objectives
Speakers
- Describe the differences between various immersive audio technologies, their strengths, and their weaknesses.
- Explain a basic, conceptual system design and communicate architectural and acoustical system requirements.
- Understand the installation and commissioning processes unique to immersive audio systems.
