Design and Integration
Fiber Optic cabling will be used more and more in AV applications, especially as resolutions increase and distance requirements move beyond the capabilities of copper cabling. After this presentation, attendees will have the knowledge to start to look at fiber installations and some of the key decisions that need to be made for a successful deployment. This session will introduce the audience to basic concepts for Fiber Optics such as Single Mode and multimode fiber, SC, LC and MPO connector types. Look at the application requirements to help Architects, Engineers, Network Owners and Designers understand the choices in optical components and the performance and loss budget requirements that will guide these decisions. A special emphasis will be placed on what tools can be used to assure the cabling is properly installed and tested, as well as techniques for troubleshooting that will touch on basic tools like Visual Fault Locators, Inspection Microscopes and Power Meters as well as more sophisticated tools like an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR).
Learning Objectives
Speakers
- tell the difference between Single Mode and multimode fiber, common connector types, and where to use one or the other.
- understand the physical layer requirements for high speed Fiber Optic applications like Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, and beyond.
- identify the basic tools that a technician in the field will need to both install and troubleshoot a fiber optic link.
