Managing Classroom Support Operations with Student Staffing

Session Description : The Ohio State University Learning Environments Team will review its student staffing process. Presenters will share case studies of developing self-directed opportunities for the students to develop their projects. The process will include hiring and training training course creation for student technicians that support classroom technology. Examples of student developer roles, student leadership roles, and instructional design development will be shared. The presentation will include testimonies from students who became employed in staff roles at the university and a demonstration of tools created as a result of the project. Tool topics will include an incident management/campus wide communication tool for Teams and a site created to track the routine weekly maintenance of all supported classrooms.

  • Understand how to create and organize an online training and onboarding program.
  • Discuss professional development opportunities and creating an internal career roadmap for student classroom support staff to develop a more effective internal talent pool.
  • Explain OSUs classroom support model, how to adapt their own support model, and how to tie student professional development into a tool to cultivate an internal talent pool.
