Accessibility as Priority - Accommodations: Student and Faculty Solutions
This session will attempt to move accommodations in classrooms from afterthought to priority. It will also clarify what is considered acceptable as opposed to convenient. UCF has for nearly 10 years systematically designed and equipped classrooms to not only meet ADA requirements but provide transparent solutions at no cost to the student. Offsite speech-to-text captioning and/or ASL interpreters are brought to the student sitting anywhere in the classroom with little to no additional faculty input. Faculty accommodations are also being implemented with the use of a variety of microphones and receivers. The three presenters represent three important aspects of the solution: Technology, Student support, and Faculty accommodation perspectives.
