Many higher education institutions are grappling with the challenge of adapting to the shifting demands of students and faculty for more flexible course delivery options. Hyflex learning models present a solution by allowing students to choose between in-person, online synchronous, or online asynchronous learning options based on their preferences. However, the implementation of hyflex poses significant challenges, including technological integration, equity and access, and evaluation and improvement of infrastructure. This insightful session will delve into the experiences of two pioneering institutions, Emory University School of Medicine and Indiana University, in deploying and optimizing hyflex models, alongside innovative measures aimed at ensuring the success of all students. Offering practical insights and solutions to common challenges associated with hyflex implementation, the higher education IT community will benefit from:

  • Real-World Examples: Learning from Emory University School of Medicine and Indiana University’s experiences in deploying and optimizing hyflex models.
  • Technological Strategies: Discovering best practices for leveraging technology to support diverse learning formats within hyflex environments.
  • Equity Solutions: Exploring innovative measures to ensure equitable access and support for all students in hyflex settings.
  • Evaluation Frameworks: Gaining knowledge on effective evaluation strategies to measure the impact and success of Hyflex implementations.

This session will foster a collaborative environment where participants can share their experiences, challenges, and successes related to hyflex implementation. By leveraging the real-world experiences of Emory University School of Medicine and Indiana University, attendees will gain actionable insights and strategies to enhance student success and optimize the effectiveness of hyflex models within their own institutions.
