Operational Defense in ProAV: Why IT Security Alone Doesn’t Protect AV Networks
Traditional IT security tools were never designed for the operational realities of AV and broadcast networks. While they excel at protecting data and users, they can disrupt the deterministic traffic flows and uptime requirements that define professional AV systems. This session introduces the concept of Operational Defense, a strategy purpose-built for safeguarding AV infrastructures where reliability and performance are as critical as security.
Attendees will learn how to identify vulnerabilities unique to hybrid environments where proprietary AV devices coexist with COTS platforms running Windows, Linux, or macOS. The session explores practical frameworks for defending control and management planes, isolating risk domains, and implementing non-disruptive detection methods that maintain system stability. Drawing from real-world deployments, participants will gain actionable approaches to securing AV operations without compromising signal integrity, interoperability, or production continuity.
