USB Hands On Workshop
Go beyond theory into real-world problem solving. In this four-hour interactive workshop, roll up your sleeves with cables, devices, extenders, and test tools to master the USB fundamentals every AV professional needs to design, deploy, and troubleshoot modern BYOD/BYOM meeting spaces.
Through guided exercises and team challenges, you will:
- Decode connectors and standards to understand why the shape of a port never tells the whole story.
- Map and validate USB topologies using software tools to ensure designs stay within the critical seven-tier limit.
- Differentiate device types and transfer methods (isochronous vs. non-isochronous, control vs. bulk, etc.) and predict AV behavior on both Windows and macOS.
- Test and certify USB-C cables for bandwidth, DisplayPort Alt Mode, and Power Delivery, ensuring stable 4K60 video, data, and charging in real-world environments.
- Troubleshoot failure scenarios with mystery-fault labs and fix-it challenges, learning how to diagnose enumeration issues, over-tier chains, and misapplied extension strategies.
- Design a complete room system that meets a scope of work, balances video and USB bandwidth, and passes validation for both performance and stability.
You will leave with the skills to confidently distinguish transparent vs. emulated extension methods and select the right hubs, host switches, and extenders to minimize re-enumeration and tier overhead. You'll also learn how to apply USB-C best practices, from PD wattage checks to DP lane allocations and produce clear diagrams and validation plans that stand up to client, consultant, and integrator scrutiny.
