Dang Ly serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer at Universal Destinations & Experiences based in Orlando, Florida since July 2022. He leads the global technology services organization & is responsible for application, infrastructure, and platform solutions enabling UDX’s business operations and guest/team member digital experiences. He oversees global application technology, infrastructure, architecture & strategy, engineering, enterprise data/AI, governance, and destination technology support teams across North America, Asia, and New Ventures. He focuses on technology development for new destinations like Universal Epic Universe, Universal Horror Unleashed, and Universal Kids Resorts. He drives technology design of digital experiences, omnichannel eCommerce, enterprise business operations, platforms/ecosystems; transformative change & technology modernization; and growth & development of technologists.
He previously served as Senior Vice President of IT at the Universal Beijing Resort, based in Beijing, China. Since joining Universal in 2016, he was responsible for IT systems, hybrid cloud infrastructure & network technologies, and cybersecurity used across the Theme Park, CityWalk, Resort Support Areas, and Employee Housing Campus. He led a large organization that designed, developed, and operated mission critical smart park technology that enabled the seamless integration of online/digital to onsite end-to-end experiences; as well as the large back of house operations of over 10,000 employees. Harvard Business Review, SAP, and Tsinghua University recognized Universal Beijing Resort’s technology platform with the 2022 “Dingge” Digital Pioneer for Annual Operational Transformation Model Award, and Dang won the 2022 “Dingge” CIO of the Year Award.
He is a seasoned business technology executive with over twenty years of global experience in multiple industries (manufacturing, media & entertainment, tourism/hospitality) and has successfully delivered on many business/digital transformation initiatives by deploying & integrating best in class software, hardware, infrastructure, and data platforms. He is effective in leading large cross-functional teams to enable core business capabilities & support revenue generation; and oversees strategic technology planning and budgeting. He is passionate about driving modern IT platform architecture that combines the best of enterprise software & infrastructure, custom software engineering, data integration/AI, and cloud/mobile/digital capabilities to provide scalable, secure, and stable technology capabilities to operate business upon.
Prior to joining Universal, Dang worked at NBCUniversal in New York, NY, where he served as Vice President of TV Ad Sales Technology & Strategy and was responsible for platform technology used in cable and broadcast TV advertising business unit ($8 Billion USD annual revenue). He also worked at General Electric (Plastics Division) in multiple positions where he managed finance and manufacturing IT systems & initiatives. He is a graduate of GE’s Information Management Leadership Program; holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst; and a Masters of Science degree in Management & Systems from New York University.
