Troy Powers
My name is Troy Powers, and I've been working in the Higher Education sector of the AV industry since 2008. Before moving into AV, I was a licensed electrician in Virginia. I hold a BS in History from George Mason University, with specializations in Colonial America and Feudal Japan with a minor in American Government.
Currently, I lead the AV support team for Northwestern University's Central IT Department, where my team manages several hundred centrally owned spaces and provides additional support through service-level agreements with various colleges across the university. Before Northwestern, I worked in a similar role at George Mason University.
I also serve as the Vice-Chair of the Higher Education Technology Managers Alliance (HETMA); having previously served as the 2-Year-At-Large Executive Board Member and the Events Chair. Additionally, I write for HETMA's media wing, Higher Ed AV.
Outside of work, I have a daughter, Brooke, who is pursuing a nursing degree at George Mason; you may have seen her scanning badges at HETMA's Infocomm booth the past two years. In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my dog, building furniture, and playing video games.
